Stress and Hair Loss

Stress and hair loss is a real thing and are commonly related. Stress and hair loss don't have to be permanent as long as you get your stress levels under control your hair will grow back. Here are three kinds of hair loss diagnosis that is linked to stress.

Alopecia Areata- There are many factors that can cause Alopecia Areata. When a person is diagnosed with this form of alopecia it means that the body's immune system is attacking the hair follicles causing the hair to come out. This can come about when you are under a lot of stress

Telogen effluvium - When several hair follicles go into the resting phase. When this happens a noticeable amount of hair suddenly falls out by simply just combing or washing your hair. A person can usually notice when they are having a lot of unnormal hair shedding.

Trichotillomania- A condition when someone has an uncontrollable urge to pull out hair. This can be the hair on their head, eyebrows, eyelashes or other body areas. This is usually a coping mechanism for those dealing with some sort of negative or uncomfortable feeling. For example, being nervous, anxious, bored, lonely, or frustrated.

So those are the common terms to describe hair loss and stress but did you know anytime your body goes through some type of shock such as childbirth, surgery, or even a fever it can possibly cause your hair to come out or shed more than usual? A few ways you can manage stress are to meditate, exercise, change up what you eat, relax more, slow down, get enjoyable hobbies and take natural supplements or herbs. The newfound herb I love is Ashwagandha. Ashwagandha has been proven to impact the body in a good way and reduce stress levels.

Ashwagandha is one of the most important herbs in Ayurveda, a traditional alternative medicine based on Indian principles of natural healing. This herb has been around for thousands of years and has many benefits for the body but two stuck out to me the most. That is it helps reduce stress, anxiety, and inflammation in the body.We know that one of the main causes of hair breakage and shedding is either stress or some form of irritation or inflammation.

With close research, I’ve incorporated this herb into a daily natural vitamin and topical treatments for the scalp and skin. Since this herb is natural it is safe to use and a holistic treatment for those suffering from hair loss of many forms.
